Bob Gardner

Would one of you computer aces explain why, after I have posted a message in
a newsgroup, I can see the replies but cannot see my post? Outlook Express,
and I don't think I have changed any settings (on purpose, that is....who
knows what I may have done by accident).

Bob.. I see your posts... some times I have the same problem...

depending on how the Outlook program is set up for "number to download".. I
limit mine to the last (latest) 150.. so if there have been more than 150
responses after my post.. I do not see my post.. but may see comments others
made referencing my post.. make sense??

Maybe you accidentally killfiled (added to the blocked sender list :
MESSAGE - BLOCK SENDER) yourself (or, maybe not accidentally :!) )

Check TOOLS - MESSAGE RULES - BLOCKED SENDERS LIST.

My boilerplate plug for Agent:

I highly recommend Forte Agent as a newsreader. It handles newsgroup
messages far better than any "included" newsreader such as those
bundled with Internet Explorer, Outlook, Netscape, or Opera--all of
which I have tried.

Download the software at www.forteinc.com/agent/download.php

The program includes the latest version of Agent as well as its
freeware version, called Free Agent. This enables you to get the feel
of the software without paying up front.

However, where Agent really shines is in its ability to filter out
objectional subjects or posters: Control+K and you're done! It was to
get that functionality that I upgraded to the paid version a year ago,
and I have never regretted it. The cost to register the software (and
thereby to unlock the full-featured version on your computer) is $29.

(A major revison is in the works. However, if you register the current
version, the upgrade will be free.)

all the best -- Dan Ford

Increase that figure to "500", and Bob shouldn't have that problem.

That sometimes appears to happen when you refresh your header list before
the server has actually posted your message. This timing issue seems to
cause a discrepancy between the local message store and the server.
Resetting your local message store usually resolves this issue.

Right click the newsgroup and click Properties. Click the Local File tab
and then click the Reset button. You'll need to re-pull the latest
messages.

Bingo. I have inadvertently "block sendered" my editor at ASA, but that was
mail, not news. Thanks for the lead.

Could be your ISP (or the news server company they contract with). I have
had similar problems with my own ISP, and it comes and goes. I try not to
worry about it too much. Nothing I can do about it, since all of the local
ISPs I'd use contract with the same news service (supernews.com).

Does it happen every single time, or just sometimes?

Bob, you simply have to drop the other shoe. Trouble with ASA that you can
talk about?

Did I imply trouble? She sent me e-mails that I did not receive. She finally
called me up to find out what was going on, which led to the "Blocked
Senders" file. The rest is history. I regularly deep-six senders of e-mail
spam, and I must have been too quick on the trigger one day when she had
sent me something. Very unusual for me to kill-file someone in the
newsgroups, but apparently I did...it was probably that idiot flogging cheap
trips to Beijing...and shot myself in the foot.

Definitely no probs between me and ASA...I have known those folks since the
70s.

I heartily agree! I use Free Agent myself -- have for years now. Much
better than anything else I have tried.

That's not necessarily a good idea, since the return address is usually forged.

Great discoveries are not announced with "Eureka!". What's usually said is

Problem here is I usually see replies to my posts a day or two before
I see my post. Some times they show up instantly and other times it
takes a day or two.

Damn...you should talk to your ISP. My posts typically show up within 2-5
seconds.

Does anyone know their typically "turn around" time?

Actually you didn't. I overlooked the word "inadvertently" (you didn't

Both of mine turned up here at 6:30 so it took 20 minutes for me to be
able to see them.

Have no idea why. My ISP subscribes to a news server rather than
having their own. Some times the posts are as yours, almost
instantneous and other times it takes hours. I can understand why
posts are often out of order, but I haven't figured out why the
different posting delays.

Unfortunately there are those of us that no amount of preparation and
spell checking are going to help. Even my spell checker changes to
