View Full Version : Useful, but unknown, FAA pubs

I was browsing through the Contents page on my Summit Aviation CD and ran
across the Accident Prevention Publications....as I read down the list of
titles, I could tie many of them to recent posts in the rec.aviation
newsgroups I visit.

For example:

Stepping Up to Your Complex Airplane...questions about constant speed props?

Engine Operation for Pilots...leaning?

How to Fly Your HSI....on a back-course localizer approach?

Preflighting Your Avionics..."Anyone got a good checklist for preflighting
avionics?"

The Impossible Turn...recent turn-back accident?

Radio Communications Phraseology and Techniques...use of "student pilot"?
(BTW, this is the bible for pilot communications.)

How to get them? Hard to tell...try calling your FSDO's Safety Program
Manager. They are all printed on yellow paper, and their designations all
begin with FAA-P. Note: Many of them are magazine articles for which the FAA
has received reprint permission; those are not the "official" FAA word.

Good. I posted first, then Googled (duh). They are also available on Avweb.
Lots of good stuff, and many pilots are unaware that these pubs exist.

Just call your FSDO. There are stacks of them sitting in their
storeroom.

I like the pricing, down to 3 decimal places.

I also found this site with pamphlets in both pdf and html formats

http://www.paragonair.com/public/docs/Safety_Pamphlets/

I had picked up few hardcopies at Safety seminars but could never
find them for reviews. It's great that they are available in softcopy
versions.
