I built one of these way back in '60-'63. Cost me all of 1165 dollars
including an Conti A-75 and 2 props ( one climb and one cruise).
Had to sell it when I was transferred. Got 800 bucks for it and
considered myself lucky.
Just wondering if there is anybody in the southeast US who might
have one that he is tired of and wanted to sell for a reasonable price
(Not 800 dollars, but not an arm and leg either). Getting a little
nostalgic in my old age.

Better warm up you tools, and find a set of plans, Chuck. That sounds like
the price almost includes a leg and an arm! <g>

You need more than that to build it?

Smith Miniplane 3-views...
http://www.home.earthlink.net/~tp-1/miniplane.jpg

The Miniplane is a sweet little biplane.
There was a fellow at Zuehl - in the long ago days -
that had a pair of them.
He was happy as a puppy with two peters.

I got curious after looking at the Miniplane drawings.
Kinda wondering how my fantasy Stealth Biplane would compare - size wize?

So I popped that 3 view into Design CAD and did a quick tracing.

duh...

I don't fly , but I like reading this newsgroup. I did a general
Google search and found one for sale for$4,000. Only you'll
know if it's worth it.

Fourth one down on Google search.

Non-flying. No engine, instruments, master cylinders, ect. There are
reasons that it has been sitting for many years.

Thanks guys
I've been looking all over the net and found a few (like in California or
Oregon). That one in contact magazine looks like it's well worth the
inflated paper we have today, but I'm looking for something in the FL, AL,
GA, etc. area. As I said I'm an old man who doesn't have the time to
build (or rebuild) another one.

I wonder how big and heavy a pilot this can fly. It's a rather tidy
looking machine.

I'm 6'3 and 10 stone.

The fellow who owned the plane was a short (person).

Rudder pedals were a little close.
A little tighter than a Pitts, maybe - but not that much.

Cozy...

I was 5; 8" and 140 lbs. when I built it and had plenty of room. I'm about
175 now but could still fit. Frank Smith was about my height and around
160 - 170 #. The cockpit was surprisingly roomy.
