Isn't IA: Inspector, Aircraft? As in A&P w/ IA?

Congrats! I would love to read about your (and others) experience on
getting the instrument rating. I am a new private pilot and I am just
starting to build up cross-country hours. Towards the end of summer I
will start instrument training.

Congrats on passing the written!

I would have suggested taking the exam a little closer
to taking your checkride -- just to be extra prepared
for your oral. That being said, there are advantages
for taking it early on too.
1) You won't have to have as much "learn ground school
while under the hood" as I did.
2) You now motivation to finish because you have a time
limit (must retake the written if you do not take your
checkride within 24 months).

In November, I took (and passed) the ASEL Instrument
checkride. My primary instructor told me to get at least
100 hours TT under my belt before starting on instrument
training. I can see why. But I wish that during my
cross-counties while building my hours before I started
my instrument training, that I had paid closer attention
to holding altitude and heading. If you can peg those
before starting your instrument training, you will be
well ahead of the game.

Good luck,

Oops, I confused the comment from the OP.
Scratch the first two sentences.

It sometimes is. However, it's also "Instrument-Airplane".

Funny you could have the rating on your own certificate and not even notice
that.

Congrats...

It feels pretty good getting that out of the way, doesn't it? I took mine
last month - but I was a wreck up until I took it. I was studying, working,
my flight instruction... it was too much. After I passed the written, I
felt like a had more time to focus on studying for the oral/practical.

The practical should be a piece of cake for you too... just keep telling
yourself that you know what you're doing and you'll do great.

Congrats. I scored a little lower than I would have preferred, but it didn't
help on the checkride, so no matter.

That is a VERY good score. I think the IFR written is one of the
hardest to pass. However, passing the check ride is even more
important.

Thank's, I will let you all know in a few weeks the outcome of that. I am
taking the accelerated route that's how I learn & retain the best. I also
really love flying airplanes.
