I had it on my Palm VIIx, deleted it after a while because the search
function was useless.

They offer a palm version of their airport directory, which I tried and gave
up one. What a piece of crap. It looked like some high school visual
basic weenie coded up the transfer program...I hardly got further than that.

If you're looking for a "legal" replacement for the A/FD, no. Other
people have commented on the Palm version of the Airport Directory.
Take a look at http://www.palmflying.com
for lots of Palm aviation software.

Define "legal replacement". In what situation do you think something like

Well, the AOPA directory doesn't even pretend to be accurate. Legal or not.

As far as I know, there are no "third party" paper publications that list all
the stuff that's in the A/FD, specifically navaid service volumes and the
like. That's certainly true for the AOPA Directory and Flight Guide. For
instrument pilots, checking that data is necessary to meet the "all available
information" requirement in the FARs.

There is at least one Palm product out there that contains everything that's
in the A/FD. I can't remember the name of the darn thing offhand. Obviously
the AOPA electronic directory doesn't hack it.

So? What's that got to do with legalities? One could simply use the Palm
guide along with other third-party products that fill in the blanks.

Even if you have an A/FD there is no way to meet the "all available
information" requirement. It's a bogus regulation, inserted so that when
you DO miss some information (and you will), the FAA always has the option
to string you up if you screw up.

You haven't even finished defining "legal" and you want to start up with a
whole new undefined term? What's the official definition of "hack it"? And
more importantly (since that's where we started), how is the AOPA directory
not "legal"?
