Hi i am not a pilot but am flying to Dubai next week on a 777 and
understand the temp there may reach mid 40 s c, are there any dangers to
engines or landing procedures at these temps, also desert conditions regards

Frank-
Most of us would say that you have nothing to worry about. 777 can handle
almost anything. On top of that, your pilots are highly trained. Again, you
have nothing to worry about. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

in truth, all aircraft have issues with heat and density altitude.
but as Toks replied, just sit back and enjoy the ride! all the
commerical aircraft have W&B tables for the DA. If you've ever
flown in/out of a southwest US airport in the summer (Arizona,
Nevada, California, New Mexico are most notorious) you may wonder
why the aircraft is not full. Not full of people (which you can
easily see) and not full of cargo (which you'll probably never see
unless you watch the loading).

Once, a few years ago, a 737 (I think) was getting ready to take off
from Phoenix, AZ in the summer. Air temp was over 100 and the temp
on the runway was well over 130. And the tables the dispatcher had
(from Boeing) did not go that high!. Call to Seattle to talk to
the engineers. Don't remember if they took more cargo off or if
they postponed the flight.

Sit back and enjoy the ride!

Nothing to worry about, Frank.. I used to fly 747s around that area. What
you do in high temp environments is decrease weight so you can operate at
that temp on the rwy available. You have takeoff limits and landing limits.
All part of normal procedures. Enjoy.

Hi Frank

I lived there over 10 years, flew on commercial at least twice per week
and never crashed once (one engine fire between Gizan & Jeddah -
Christmas Eve 1979 - landed & ecavuated). Out there the temps won't
getcha - the sandstorms will getcha - assume that if you can see you're
OK :)
