Burt's too smart to take the job.

New Yorker magazine just ran an article on Burt. Brilliant, but a bit of a
nut case.

He'd have to be. No sensible person would have accomplished nearly
everything he's accomplished so far in his lifetime.

I read that article today; Rutan didn't strike me as a nut case. That
other couple, Rod and Randa Milliron, seemed a good bit nutier than
Rutan.

Now why would you go and insult the man like that? :-)
If I was the president, the job envy would be the other way around.

SpaceShipOne did what the gummint did in 1961 with the X-15/B-52, and
they had to have a software billionaire dump a big big wad of cash on
them to do it. I'm sorry, the Rutans are not my heroes. They have been
a glorified hobby outfit for twenty years. Only one Rutan design has
become a production aircraft and the company is buying them all
back.....

Jim I'll bet you'll agree that the more GA pilots we have have
government, the better off we'll be. I specify "GA" pilots, becasuse
John McCain, whom I admire, is, unfortunately, NOT a friend of GA.
To get back to the original suggestion, I suspect Burt Rutan would be
as big a disaster as a President as Bush or Kerry would as aircraft
designers.
