Hi folx,
First, Happy New Year to all!
I need a favor from you, please. I have cooked up a site which I hope
you'll find useful. It's www.copilots.net and is designed to let
interested pilots find each other and fly together. It's free and I
have no hidden interest or gimmicks to go with it other than I have
been so sick and tired of paying thru the nose for flight rentals that
doing this site seemed the most natural remedy to fight the increasing
(and insane) costs for me and everyone else.
Pls take a look at it, play with it and let me know how you like it and
what other features you'd like. If you want to write by email pls
write to ayk8-AT-yahoo.com
Rgds,
-Toly.

First. Get rid of the splash screen then get rid of the slow downloading
picture on the signin screen.

No kidding. 317KB just for a picture?? It's slow even on my DSL
(1536 kbps nominal download).
Then on the create-new-account screen, a small shot just for
decoration is 58KB.
These are all way too big for a web page.
After creating a new account, I got a blank page with no indication
anything had happened. This is with Mozilla Firefox 1.0. I don't use
IE anymore.
Hey, great idea! Ever consider a site for single pilots to hook-up?
I've been looking for a little female flying companionship. ;-)
As for the site, it would be nice to be able to look around a little
without habving to sign in. When I did sign in I got a blank page...
Good luck....and great idea!

Cool, I'll make pix smaller in size. I haven't tested the site with
FireFox, and chances are it may not render it right. I don't
particularly like IE myself but making cross-browser support was too
much work at the time.
Note, there's a "flights map" screen that may be slow to dload and may
not render right in anything than IE. Same may apply to JS.
Pls let me know if you find other features useful and what other things
you don't like.
Thx,
-Toly.

Toly,
Couple of thoughts.
I have T1 3 megabits DSL line, using MSIE 6.0 XP SP2
Front page took almost 10 seconds to fully load.
Created logon account (lieberma), didn't get any confirmation, white screen
as others reported. Second attempt worked.
Created flight plan, same effect as creating account. Didn't work, had to
close browser, go back in and re-enter.
Maybe a short explanation on the flight plan screen to explain what
happens. After creating plan, I refreshed flight plans per instructions,
but I didn't know what to do next.
Comments field does not work. All flights indicate ski trip. I manually
input pleasure trip, and it did not reflect in flight plan. I doubt that I
will find any skiing from KMBO to L31 (Madison MS to Covington LA).
Concept looks good, just needs a lot of work, but you did make that clear
with "beta" :-)

Hi Toly
If you are restricting it specifically to the USA it would be good if
you let people know ahead of time.
I visited your site to give you honest feedback. Here is what I found.
I live 70 miles over the border but I see this big line there - OK/Not
OK. If you exclude anyone from outside the USA you should let them know
upfront. Other than that it looks OK. Nothing earthshaking but it has
potential.

Most people would leave you site if they get hung up on the splash
page. My advice -- keep it simple, keep the file sizes really small,
and make it easy to navigate.

Hi folx,
I will get rid of the splash screen when I move the site to the
standard HTTP port (80). Since it's not very stable yet I run it on
port 8080, hence a temporary splash screen with a redirect.
You can now login as default "guest" without need to create account. I
will reduce the file sizes and will look into why you see blank pages
at times and hopefully will fix the crash problem soon.
You're right, there should be a note about supporting US only at this
time. The only reason non-US pilots are not supported is that I don't
have database with airport coordinates for other countries (such as
Canada). I'd be happy to add that if anyone has that data.
Okay, lemme fix these things and if you find others pls lemme know.
Thx,
-Toly.

I think the text with grid paper background is painful to read.

Just a pet peeve... mask the password (and make the user enter it twice to
prevent typo's). And (although I never did get registered, so I don't know
if you do this) please don't email it to me. :-)
All in all, a great idea.

Hi folx,
I've shrank the pix in size - should be loading a lot faster now. If
you still get blank pages pls let me know (it doesn't happen to me but
if it happens to you pls tellme what browser and connection speed you
use).
Thx for other comments, I'll incorporate them... Pls let me know if
you find "flights map" useful (I hope so). The "forum" is kinda broken
(threads don't sort properly) so that is still WIP. If you have other
ideas or features you'd like pls lemme know.
Thx for all the feedback.

You're more likely to find a unicorn than a single female pilot, at least
under the age of 35. I've never seen one, anyway. And if I did I sure as
hell wouldn't tell anyone else about it.
