View Full Version : Off Topic Advice

This morning I see a bunch of postings about jetport operations, and
airliners back taxi, and tickets for direct flights that aren't. Jeez,
is there a full moon or what?

To those who don't get it... This forum is for and about piloting
airplanes, i.e. for and about being a PILOT...
Stories about your experiences as a passenger on a commercial airline,
or your parking problems at the terminal, or getting jerked around by
Bluescrew Airlines, are off topic for this group... I, personally, do
not care if your last flight was the best or worst story of your
life... Post it where somebody cares! Not here...

Dude, where have you been the last several years? Political rants rate at
the top of OT posts in this newsgroup. At least airline rants reference
the word, "air." :)

You will never have 100% compliance with this group's on-topic subject, so
I would suggest you get familiar with the (I)gnore Thread feature of your
newsreader. The more who simply ignore off-topic posts, the less
incentive there will be to post them.

I just got a great deal on a used Dell laptop. Only slightly
scorched... <g>

I disagree Denny.

I thought 99.5% of the posts, this past week, have been fine for RAP. The
fixation on the 'cause' of the Comair crash surprised me a bit, though.

While I share the OPs opinion of many threads, I am able to use MY personal
filters to disregard them. One of the major functions of this group is to
allow pilots and those interested in aviation to COMMUNICATE with other
individuals that are similarly inclined. While our group does include those
whose interests and opinions I do not share, as a group they tend to be
thoughtful and well informed. I find many of the OT threads here to be some
of the best general commentary on the net and a window into a certain strata
of humanity. In general <G> we are able to avoid the rude and boorish
verbal diarrhea that infects most of the political groups and I appreciate
the comments and attitudes of many here with whom I am often in
disagreement.

I have noticed that as piloting becomes less affordable we talk about flying
less but still appreciate the interaction with other pilots.

I may disagree with the opinions of many but defend their right to voice
them.

Regards and happy landings to all.

Perhaps you should just consider either learning how to filter threads
in your newsreader or if that is not available with your newsreader,
perhaps you should consider getting a new one...

You know, for the last month or so, I think that I have seen less political
"rants" than in any other period of time in the several years that I have
been reading this group.

I don't know if this is really true, or if it is just wishful thinking, but
that is the way it seems to me.

I would like to think that the request for a new "POL" subject filter
insertion has made people more aware, and has made a difference. None the
less, if there has been a reduction, I am grateful. <g>

We tried that for a while. 3 weeks went by without a single post.

I like this better - the R.A.P. Community has a place to talk about the
things that seem to interest us, even if some of them are not directly about
piloting.
