Every September the Stearmans fly home to roost in Galesburg, IL (KGBG)
for a week under the waning, late-summer, Midwestern sun. This year
they were greeted by absolutely picture-perfect weather, and many
appreciative spectators.

Last Thursday, we were among them. Best of all, this group's own
Montblack was able to join us for the short flight from Iowa City to
Galesburg, where we spent an entire day immersed in biplane heaven.
The sky was azure blue, puffy white clouds, light winds, warm
temperatures -- and dozens and dozens of the prettiest biplanes on
earth.

See http://www.alexisparkinn.com/national_stearman_fly-in.htm for pix
and a couple of videos... If you ever get a chance to see this
marvelous little gathering, it's truly worth the flight.

Is anything =not= worth the flight? :)

Well, actually, yes. For example, we didn't fly to Clinton, IA, this
year for the annual Cessna 150/152 fly-in. Nor did we make it to
Amana, IA this year for the Farm Festival, even though it draws as big
of crowd as Oshkosh.

But biplanes on a sunny summer afternoon? Now, THAT is worth flying
to!

If Atlas were fueled and it were a nice day and you had some time, and
there =wasn't= a Cessna fly-in, you'd go to Clinton just to fly. :)

Okay, you've got me there... ;-)

I spent a week in Clinton one night, when my interior wasn't finished
until late in the day, the sun had set, and none of us could figure out
how to activate the runway lights... But that's another story...
