Well, Fat Albert goes for his annual condition check today... Not
much on the punch list...

Repair the trim tab indicator wire which has snapped - which requires
someone to crawl all the way into the tail cone... Not fun and pushing
near my seventh decade I decided discretion was the better part of
valor and I will pay someone to do it... Being cheap, err thrifffty,
I normally do this stuff myself - but decided to pass on this one...
Anyway, 51 years of service is not bad for a piece of wire that wraps
around a pulley and is wrapped and unwrapped every time the trim is
changed... Actually, I don't even notice the pointer is not working
as I never look at it anyway...

Replace all engine hoses on the Starboard side with teflon / fire
sleeved, hoses... Did the Port engine last year <myself>... Was going
to do this myself this past summer, but summer got away from me
somehow...

Change the igniter plug on the heater...

And that's it... So we will see what Murphy has in store for us when
Steve begins peering into orifices...

Don't you love that feeling?

We've got some issues with our main fuel tanks that will have to be
resolved at/by our annual in March (they probably need to be removed
and resealed) that I'm not looking forward to, but otherwise we have
no squawks.

That's when I *really* start to worry...

We landed at Midland about 2PM... Noticed Steve's Part 135 Aztec was
sitting outside in the cold <unusual>... Entered the hangar through
the side door as usual, and immediately almost went blind in the murk
and was gasping for air.. Steve and his helper were spray painting
his Skyhawk with acrylic enamel... The two of them stood there in face
masks (ineffectual facemasks) saying something like, "I thought you
locked that door.", to each other....
We went to the office - the fumes there were excessive also but not
like in the hangar... Dave, a friend, who was with me raised his
eyebrows... Recent university graduate with a degree in hydrogeology,
hazmat certification, spent last summer hip deep on the Gulf of Mexico
sampling the muck for heavy metals caused by land run off, etc..
Anyway, Steve came in, took his mask off and there were streaks of
paint around his nostrils... I about had to sit on Dave...

I hope Steve finishes Fat Albert's annual before he croaks!

Aw, shucks, my mechanic does this all the time. He's painted his P6
Hawk replica (ready to fly this spring!), and he's currently painting
a Taylorcraft and a Cub.

Heck, he doesn't even wear the face mask... And he's really happy,
all the time...

I think he's using regular automotive paint.

He's not using that real poisonous stuff, (I'm drawing a blank on the
name right now), but by God, it sure is "aromatic" in his hangar.

He was using dope to do the fabric wings of his biplane a couple of
weeks ago. Wow, what a great way to get a buzz! Just walk through
the hangar, and you're feeling fine.

Methinks all them old-time A&Ps were stoned all the time...

Any of the paints with Isocyanate based catalysts are dangerous. But *most*
people won't die after a single large exposure. The way to think about it is
that your body has a <figurative> cup which can hold a certain amount of
Isocyanate. The cup fills with any exposure. The worse the exposure, the
more of the cup's capacity is consumed. The cup never empties. And you
don't know how big your figurative cup is. Once the cup overflows, you have
a real problem.

Another way of saying it is that Isocyanate's impact is cumulative. The
people who have real problems with it usually suffer an allergic reaction,
and have never shown any symptoms of an Iso problem before...
