Well, I finally passed my CFI checkride last Sunday! I started the ride the
week before, but clouds ceilings kept us from doing most of the airwork.
Whew. Now I'm just waiting for it to warm up enough to head out to the
airport again. :-)
On to the CFII...

Congratulations, very cool! Where are you going with your ratings? What
do you hope to do?

Hopefully make enough to pay for the CFI checkride....
I'm a computer programmer, so I have no aspirations to build time for the
airlines. To darn old. I'd love to teach full time, but can't take the cut
in pay. :-)
I just want to teach in our flying club & help my CFII a little with his
10dayinstrument.com business. I'm studying for the CFII written at the
moment. Amazing the things you forget since you get the IFR rating.

Congrats. Steven. Some day I'd like to do the same...seriously
considering starting on the commercial certificate sometime this year.

Or the MEI. Then YOU get to decide who the real pilots are (unlike some guys
who have never flown an airplane).

Congratulations, its not a trivial rating to get. I used to be a
computer geek myself before throwing in the towell a few years
back.

Heh, other than airlines, I've never flown in a "twin". There's just not
much call for it around here. The computer firm I work for has 3 Citations.
One of the pilot's said all I need is a multi & high-alt endorsement to fly
right seat. I can put the CFII to more work than a multi, so that's first on
my laundry list.

First mistake..."One of the pilots said...."

aircraft for which second-in-command privileges are requested—
(i) Operational procedures applicable to the powerplant, equipment, and
systems.
(ii) Performance specifications and limitations.
(iii) Normal, abnormal, and emergency operating procedures.
(iv) Flight manual.
(v) Placards and markings.
(2) Except as provided in paragraph (g) of this section, performed and
logged pilot time in the type of aircraft or in a flight simulator that
represents the type of aircraft for which second-in-command privileges

(i) Three takeoffs and three landings to a full stop as the sole
manipulator of the flight controls;
(ii) Engine-out procedures and maneuvering with an engine out while
executing the duties of pilot in command; and

Congrats Steven!
I'm based up the road from you at Lincoln(KAAA) working on my private.
I'll keep your CFII's business in mind when I get around to the IR.
Maybe I'll get to fly with you someday.

BIG congratulations! I got mine, Sept of last year. I still haven't got
the urge to go for the CFI-I yet, but good for you!
I'm toying with the idea of getting a taildragger add-on to my Commercial
Certificate, but I don't feel like I have the 'gumption' to go for the
double-I, yet.
Once again big congratulations and good luck on that next ticket!!! :)

DO IT Jack! :) The Commercial is a lot of fun, the CFI is some good work,
but nothing too daunting (although MY checkride with the FSDO was one long
ordeal <g>), heck, if even I can do it, you will have no problems! :) lol
I'm going into my 6 month (full-timer) at my CFI gig and I have to tell you,
that every day that I walk out to the field to instruct I just feel so
'blessed' and fortunate - it is one heck of a responsibility but more
rewarding than I can even begin to communicate to you. Judging by your
posts and correspondence I'm sure you will find the 'pearl beyond measure'
in instructing as well. I still do my I.T. work on most evenings (that I'm
not doing night flights with students) and the weekends, so I think I've
struck a good balance between my two 'worlds'. My clients have actually
responded well to having evening and weekend access to me, now, despite
having lost access to me on most weekdays. Originally I was going to go at
the flight instructing part-time, but after that whole brush with breast
cancer back in 04 it really started me thinking about how important it is to
'seize the day'. So I have :)
Either way; part-time or full-time, Jack,, you will find flight instructing
is not only a 'gift' to others but one exceptionally soul-enriching 'gift'
to yourself, as well. During my student's solos, first solo cross-country
flights, and passing their checkride - it is hard to tell who is enjoying it
the most as I seem to be getting as much a kick out of their accomplishment
and the stories that follow as they do!

Thanks Cecil.
Yeah, it's all just a matter of time and money :-) It's been right at a
year since getting my instrument rating so I figure I've had the right
amount of time off from training. One thing I plan to do is learn a
fair amount of the maneuvers from a partner who is currently in the
process of getting his commercial certificate. So...we'll see. If I
can start on the commercial certificate sometime in '07, that will be a
good thing.
