The FAA is marching toward sole dependence on GPS. However,
the FAA engineers and controllers are screaming from the
mountaintops PLEASE do not single thread North American
airspace navigation on satellite only.

Yes GPS is awesome. Yes GPS has and will change our lives.
But the signal is small and vulnerable. From an
infrastructure perspective all you have to do is jam the
down link. IF we were GPS only in North American Air Traffic
control the Chinese or sophisticated internal terrorism
could shut down the system.

High Power GPS jammers energized at coordinated locations
near big cities. Mobile jammers in vans. GPS jammers and
Spoofers on balloons launched up wind from major cities.

We would come to our knees. It would take days to sort out
the jammer locations while our entire economy is crippled.

GPS can be PRIMARY But!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we should have a
secondary Robust ground network for Navigation and
Communication of aircraft, military, trucks and ships and
trains and people.

Use an integrated GPS/VOR/DME/LORAN concept. All GPS
receivers sold after 2010 everywhere should be capable of
picking up all four systems. FOUR separate frequencies for
more spectrum jamming difficulty. Keep ILS at major airports.

If the idiots in FAA Management that are filled with
clueless failed diversity experiment's allow our nations
civil and military air traffic control to hang on the single
thread of GPS the Chinese will be choking on their egg rolls
laughing so hard. And the Russians will snort vodka out
their nose.

Mission should ALWAYS come first. Politically Correct warm
and fuzzy bull**** can wait.

What's that got to do with GPS nav? You can debate the merits of the proposal but an
all male, all white FAA would be moving in that same direction.

Between the narc sniffer dogs and the EEOC, your life must be a living hell.

Depending on GPS exclusively is extremely unwise. However, lots of people
often do things that are extremely unwise.

Spoofing the signal is even better, as then you can control where the traffic
moves without it being aware of your interference. And that's easy, too.

We still have VOR/DME. As long as that remains in place it provides some
backup, although very complex RNAV navigation might be problematic with VORs
alone, and many crews will eventually forget how to do anything except GPS
RNAV.

Currently GPS cannot replace ILS.

Did you see the guy who signed the intro Langhorne Bond? He
used to be FAA administrator back in the days when the FAA
had it's **** together and was the envy of Government service.

The FAA filled their top ranks with female and minority
idiots under the guise of "Affirmative Action" back when
Clinton came on as president and basically destroyed the
organization and left it to die on the vine.

Loran is good stuff. Has a few night time interference and
sun spot issues but it along with GPS could provide a good
robust system. I still like keeping some VOR and DME
stations also on the continental US landmass

issues they may turn into hog food.

America is a free country sir. I never said all male or all
white FAA I said "QUALIFIED" people not politically correct
experiments who are clueless and unqualified for FAA duty.

The FAA is no place for social engineering experiments
