At the request of a science teacher, I'm planning to assemble my
glider in the gym at my daughter's school and would like to show a
short video suitable for children age 12 and under. Any suggestions?

Hi Robin,

My kids (ages 7, 9 and 12) get bored quickly with every soaring video I've
shown to them. They seem to like "Dawn Flight" the best.

Another good short video is "Soaring, 'Your Sport' For the New Millennium".

The recently posted videos from the Junior World Soaring Competition are
excellent also - if you have an internet connection when presenting.

better not get Barack Obama to do the narration.............otherwise
we could see soaring and socialism getting connected.

If you are more into entertainment than education, Goofy's Glider is
always fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Anhvm4NNwBA

Ive been told that I act and think like a 12 year old and I love it!

Also, Paul's suggestion of Dawn Flight is a good one. I was
mesmerized the first time I saw it. Note the above statement about my
mental capacity. It could be a good fit. Especially if your glider
is a 1-26. The flying in that movie is incredible.

good on you for taking your glider to school!

YouTube videos can be downloaded through various intercepting
websites. Google "download youtube videos" for a listing.

Good luck with the school day!

While I don't know your objective and amount of time, here's one data
point.

When I did this many years ago with the Libelle, it was for a 2nd &
3rd grade science day. It was outside and my only goal was to have
the children remember that it's the wing that makes an airplane fly,
not the engine. I took my old big German photo calendars and ripped
each month's picture out to give to each kid. I stood by the cockpit
and with Marty Hellman's help, each chlid would sit in the cockpit
with the canopy on for a few seconds, I took a Polaroid picture of
them, and handed it to each kid. What was most unexpected was the
interest in the Cobra trailer parked well away from the Libelle. More
kids and adults gathered around that than the glider!

Kemp,

Some of us "kids" (okay, maybe just me) had as much fun with the box
that the toy came in as with the toy itself. Maybe even more fun.
And a Cobra (or Komet or Swan or Avionic or ...) is one heck of a
box! (except for you never had to wax a box or keep good tires on it,
either...)

My 7 year old granddaughter and 5 year old grandson demand to watch
The Boy Who Flew With Condors

Hi,

"The Boy Who Flew With Condors" is a great film. Unfortunately, I can't get
them anymore. After joining the Disney Movie Club and buying and re-selling
several hundred of them, I was cut-off. Both the SSA and I have begged them
to make the film available for glider pilots, but no luck. Does anyone work
for Disney? You may be able to get copies from re-sellers at Amazon.com.

Good Soaring,

"The Boy Who Flew With Condors" is good for children if a little
dated.

"Windborn - A Journey into Flight" is also good. About a teenage girl
learning to fly. It is too long to hold children's attention for long
so it would need to be edited down to a few key segments.

There are a myriad of YouTube videos which could be good/short/
entertaining. I have done two things with these to be able to show
them on a laptop. 1) Have an Internet connection, and a PC connected
to a TV. Many/most classrooms have this. Sign into your YouTube
account and create a Playlist of your favorite videos. OR 2) load Real
Player which allows you to download YouTube videos to your laptop.
Then show them.

These are suitable for a TV but not really for a projector. Here are
some videos that I like;

Good luck. Report back how it went and what you did.
