Ok, one more round of it: does anyone have a set of Airbike plans for
sale, or know of the German website that was/is producing them
(newairbike.com)?
Thanks

Thanks.
I was hoping for the English site, but this will do for starters.

Put in the web address www.kronichflug.de into the Google machine and
select Translate this page. Links within are also translated.

Did that and sent an e-mail off to them...unfortunately it wasn't in
German and I don't know anyone that speaks it. However, English is
fairly common in Europe and hopefully they will be able to translate
and respond.
Thanks again!

I didn't hear if you were looking for single or two place information , I do
know that the Legal Eagle wings are pretty much identical , good luck , Phil

Thanks for the Legal Eagle info. It is very similar. As for single
ot two-place, I'm open but I would prefer two-place. I have a line on
some AirBike plans in NC and FLA and just waiting for something to pan
out.

Well, since Google is taking over the earth, they also have a page where
you can translate text. Appropriately, it's at translate.google.com.
Enter your text and select the languages. I don't know how well it
works, so I'd include an explanation about the machine-generated
translation in the message. When you get a reply, just run it back again.

I also tried the earlier full page translation that you mentioned and also
this cut and paste method, as I had not previoulsy been aware of the google
translation features. Both seem to work amazingly well. Not great
litterature, nor the salvation of either language from the ravages of
careless "street" usage; but certainly fulfilling the objective of the
moment--especially if an explanation is included that an automated
translation was used.
Thanks for adding some very usefull knowledge!

As an update, I've not received any reply regarding plans. I'm
beginning to think the answer to my question is a resounding 'no' to
plans, and I'm not in a position to afford the almost 20K euros (plus
shipping) for a built one. Besides, where's the fun in that?
Back to the web to see if anyone has plans.

There is a project listed on Barnstormers that might be a fair deal.
comes with a Rotax 503.
I have a set of plans but I'm not willing to part with them. If I
ever get them all converted to CAD I'll post the DXF
files......................

I'll take a look, thanks, but I'm really interested in building one
from scratch.
I have access to AutoCAD 10 and a large-format plotter...is there
anything I can do to help convert those plans?

And I thought I was the slowest person in the world to accept an upgrade...
Seriously, though, be very carefull about using AutoCAD-10 or AutoCAD-12 for
that type of project. They are outstanding programs; but they were designed
for architectural work and their handling of curves is based on constant
radii--so you could never accurately loft a wing or plot any part that needs
to follow a complex curve.

Rib profiles could be left as a scan of the original
somehow...although I don't have that large a scanner, but I have laid
out an airfoil profile before in AutoCAD using chord stations and
figures as listed in "Theory of Wing Sections". It seemed to
reproduce the airfoil faithfully. Such a method could be used here,
too, provided the type of airfoil is known.
Granted, my offer to help convert the plans to DXF files was shooting
from the hip. It would stand to reason that reproduction of the
drawings would have to be done with the utmost care.

Actually, ACad should be perfectly adequate for most of the Airbike.
It's a pretty basic set of plans for a basic plane. It's all 2D on
paper so there is no need for 3D files. I have better CAD and can do
the "nasty" stuff. If you or anyone else is seriously interested in
doing the Airbike in CAD I'd be willing to kind of coordinate the
project, even though I don't have time to make much of a contribution
myself due to other projects time demands. I'll never build one but I
know that there are many others that probably would if they could get
a set of plans..................
Contact me off list if you are interested.

you'll find a digital camera makes quite useful copies of plans.
anything upward of 4 megapixels is useful.
sometimes the answer is right under your nose....

You are correct. I've used the camera trick before to import things
to CAD for reverse engineering.

Yeah, that's a group that was just started after conversations between
myself and another AirBiker.
