Hi
I have been a DG, LS owner for 20 years. Mr Weber created this monster
13 years ago by encouraging us to use is facility. I have never
needed DG services to keep my aircraft airworthy. Last month I needed
information on L'Hotellier connection for my LS 6. I sent a email to
DG and voilà, 24 hours later I had all I needed without effort. I
have done this many time and DG personnel always encourage me to do so
by saying "you are very welcome". Now Mr Weber is creating another
monster with is taxes. I am not a business person but creating an
artificial need to extract money from potential customer is not a
smart move. I will have another sailplne, 18 meter. It will not be a
DG product!
Regards.

The way I read the article.. pay the fee and get support.
Don't pay... no support. Need a part.. pay the fee, plus parts cost.. get
the part.. Pay the fee, get the life extension inspection details for 1/2
cost.
It will be interesting to see how the FAA views this, the Euro "feds"
require current manuals.. and updates.
granted our manuals must be current too, all ADs are downloadable from the
FAA web sites.
But to pay a fee to the builder company just for the privilege to fly
another year... ??
There are a lot of Schweizers out there for us recreational flyers..

While I'm not a fan of this method of recouping their expenses, I think
it's fair to say DG Flugzeugbau did not build the gliders that will be
charged the yearly fee. Those were built by the company that went
bankrupt. DG Flugzeugbau IS saying they will continue to support the
gliders THEY built without charge.

How are "orphaned" Libelle's kept going?
Herr Hansjorg Striefeneder's company sees to it, I guess.
Who takes care of the Centrair's?
Hmmmm.
Will we LS drivers end up on the same forgotten island as the Centrair
drivers, or will a Streifeneder come along?

See my previous post, but in summary, Glasfazer says that:
- all currently issued TNs and ADs are free and will remain so
- parts needed to carry them out will be available as normal.
I've looked into this because in the UK 201-13 (which was issued as
optional) will probably need to be completed before next season since
the front tailplane fastener failed on a British H.201B last year.
201-13 is outstanding on mine. If I'm required to implement it I'll
simply order the parts from Glasfazer and fit them during my next
annual in Feb.
- the last free TN is 201-37 and its equivalent for all other Glasflügel
gliders. This TN describes transponder installation.
- any future TNs will be charged for to cover the costs of designing
and writing up the procedure together with the EASA fee for issuing
it[1]. These costs will be added to the cost of replacement parts, etc.
[1] Paying a contribution toward Glasfazer's costs seems fair enough.
201-37 was issued when transponders became mandatory in Germany and
writing it required a fair amount of design effort by Glasfazer. Its
reasonable that an owner should share the design and documentation costs
but I find it obnoxious that the European Aviation *Safety* Agency should
charge a fee to people who document a *safety* issue when its handed to
them on a plate ready for distribution.
