Well I managed to get the first tow at Hollister yesterday 1/1/10.
11am local time.

Nope - the Kiwis were flying nearlier a day earlier than that,
courtesy of the International Date Line.

OK - I got that.
How about - did I win in my time zone? (PST)

I'd have to check.. but I think the first pilot got off the ground at about
1030 PST at LVVSA.
We were busy all day with about 20 tows.. sled rides all as there was no
wind.. and not enough thermal heating for nary a bump.

11:00 first launch at Middletown NY- We slept in

Some years back, one of our pilot's proudly announced "All the REAL
glider pilots flew on January 1." To which I responded "And all the
SOARING pilots are waiting until there are thermals." The icy glare I
got from him was priceless.

On January 2, we had a few thermals later in the day and one of our
members stayed up 43 minutes in his first 1-26 flight.

Looking at OLC, over New Year's weekend there were 9 posted flights with
enough points to be scored:
5 at Santa Ynez
2 at Warner Springs
2 at TSA
