Aero 1550 and XCSoar

Is there a version of XCSoar that is compatible with the Compaq Aero
1550 (MIPS R4111, CE 3.0). Is so, is it available for download?

I have downloaded Installxcsoar-ppc2002.exe. It installs ok but
returns the error "not a valid Windows CE application" when atempting
to run it.

Don't want to waste any more time on this if it isn't supported
anymore.

For anyone still using the 1550 I am set up to compile the exe file
for it.
Let me know if you want me to email you a newer exe file for the 1550.

I received Aero 1550 compatible files for XCSoar and XCSoar
simulator. I just copied them to my 1550 using the explorer function
of ActiveSync and they run fine. You can use the same TP file as GNII
but need Open Air format airspace. You'll also need a suitable polar
file. I have not attempted to install any terrain files and have no
expectaion it would work on this processor.

So far I'm just getting familiar with it in simulator mode and can't
comment on how well it will work in flight on this device. I can pass
the files on to you if you send me an email.

I was not able to find compatible files on the XCSoar site and have
been told that support for the 1550 is discontinued. But see Brian's
offer above. I found the XCSoar documentation relating to 1550
support to be conflicting and confusing but maybe that's just me.

What works even better than the Simulator mode is to use the Flight
Version and the Replay feature. Put an IGC file from one of your
previous flights on the PDA and replay it. This may work on the
Simulator as well, but I don't think I have tried it.

Think you'd be much happier with an ipaq 3900 series device. Zippy
processor and good, cockpit readable color display. You can get these
on ebay inexpensively. You would need a different cradle though.

Actually, I think the iPAQ hx4700 series has the best display; with
the "PNA" devices (HP 340 and similar units) just about tied - but
with a slightly trickier setup if you need to connect to any external
devices (since the PNA devices have no wired connectors).

Nice thing is that you can get hx4700 or hx4705 units on eBay for
about $120, whereas the PNA units are around $200 - $250.
