IIRC it had something to do with getting around a neutrality legislation the
US had prior to Dec. 7th '41 and the P-40s were going to Canada for use
against the nazis in yurp.. Although I have been wrong a few times in the
past...

I too would like to know the story behind this intriguing image. The scenery
around this waterborne Warhawk is more suggestive of Alaska than anything in the
South Pacific, however. If somebody finds the real story please share it with
us.

"The second picture is the airplane arriving at Salt Spring
Island, British Columbia, Canada after being purchased (towed
from Pat Bay Air Station to Salt Spring Island by a fishing
boat while on a raft of logs!). The rest of the pictures show
how she looks today back at Pat Bay Airport, Sidney, British
Columbia."

They're just pulling messages from a Usenet feed and sticking them in a
forum - possibly pushing them out, too. Someone else can join them and
find out.
