More like a bomber version of the DC-2. The B-23 was derived from the DC-3.

Douglas "Digby" in RCAF service, so named (I think) for the port on the Bay
of Fundy famous for its scallops.

and another , this one is still sitting like this on the Big Island of
Hawaii, hopefully she will be picked up one day to be displayed in the
museum on Ford Island.. Thats the plan anyway. B-18 36-446

Thanks for the ID and your responses.

The photo was made during the dedication ceremony of the Yankee Clipper on
26 March 1936 which was attended by FDR and Elenore. The aircraft carried
secret service personnel to the event. (Notice the smoke stacks in the
background of each photo.)
