The best way to get a good wind calculation while flying "straight",
such as on a final glide, descending through wind gradients and
shears, I do the following per conversation with Dave Ellis a few
years ago:

1. Turn 45 degrees off course and fly straight for 10-15 seconds.
2. Turn 90 degrees in the opposite direction and fly straight for
10-15 sec.
3. Resume original course.

The 302 want to see a couple of straight glides in different
directions in order to use TAS & ground track to come up with a wind.

I keep the HW component and delta wind displayed on my GlideNav and if
the delta exceeds a couple knots, I know it's time for a new wind
calculation.

Can you see the wind calculation directly without a 303? I didn't
even know this was a feature in the 302. I use Winpilot and mCu, both
of which do their own circle drift calcs I think.
