Deuche Folksegel Flugzeug Gmb. proposed a very interesting and
elegant solution to the notorious problem of very slow and painfully
long self lunch of all German motor gliders. Simple electromagnetic
clutch between the motor and the glider main wheel will allow the
glider to gain the take off speeds in time much shorter then it was
possible in traditional configuration that is the propeller only
acceleration. All power of the motor is being initially transfer to
the glider main wheel. Clutch is disengaging after the glider is
reaching the 7/8 of its takeoff speed. Test performed on 04.01.2010
showed that it is possible to take off a two sitters like DG1001, from
the runway as short as 120 feet…or with a headwind, even shorter.

Indeed.

Another nice April Fool's joke could be that a certain company which
is located close to the Wasserkuppe is going to announce a flapped 20m
doubleseater soon... but that would be too exaggerated to believe,
wouldn't it?

Or that all the other European glider manufacturers will begin
mandatory "Manufacturer Club Membership" just as DG/LS has done. The
kind of club membership where you have to pay Euro 245 per year to
join, and you don't even get a tee-shirt for that price. No hat, no
lapel pin, no beer glass with company logo. Nothing.

You get a sheet of paper to put in your manual that lets you fly your
glider. Priceless!
