When I pointed out to my "progressive" state Senator, who was
bragging about raising alcohol taxes, that said taxes were
actually regressive, she replied, "Well, maybe they'll drink
less."
And they wonder why I want to blow things up!

They will drink less for a short while. Once they have internalized the
increase, it won't matter to them, anymore.
When Massachusetts implemented the $0.05 per container deposit for
carbonated beverages prices per can went up at the same time, by
$0.20-0.40 in addition to the deposit. Sales fell dramatically for a few
weeks. Then the manufacturers started reaping the windfall from their
price increases.

Less food, same beer.
