I understand that one of the Blues has resigned from the team. Any ideas and
what will be the plan for the rest of the season?

I saw the MCAS Beaufort show April 25, and there was a plane missing. The
diamond was a three ship. The show seemed a bit blah as well, very little
vertical action although the weather was fine.

I worked with the medical people at Beaufort on the 24th and that is what I
had heard also. I also agree with Bob in the previous post that it was not
up to the usual standards. Maybe it was that I had just gotten back from
working at Sun 'n Fun and I was just bored at another
air show or maybe I had seen the Blues too many times. Btw, is anyone going
to the Mid-Atlantic Fly-In at Lumberton, NC on the 14,15, 16 May. I have
plans to be working that one also.

Several news reports state that he was released from the team for
undisclosed medical reasons and that the team was hoping to have a former
Blue Angel pilot join the team to take the spot for the remainder of the
season.

Which has been their normal practice for quite a while, AIUI. It
takes a while for the alumnus to get back in the groove, though.

Admittedly, I don't see either team (Blues or Birds) that often, and
I'm of course hooked on the sound & fury of it all, but...do the teams
really do much of anything from year to year that's different or new?
Or is it basically just the same maneuvers every year, maybe arranged
differently?

FYI, the Blues were at NAS Dobbins (near Atlanta today). My home is within
the boundaries of the show airspace, and I can tell you that they were
flying a 4 ship formation plus solo aircraft. Presumably, someone has
worked up to flying #3...

Saw the show at Dobbins yesterday. Was a guest of the NAS's C.O. and
saw the demo from the VIP area. The Blues started out with the four
ship and two solos. On several of the maneuvers, one of the
four-ships dropped out making a three-ship formation. Although the
Blues are always great to see, I would rate this performance a little
ragged. Obviously, the replacement was not fully up to speed. On a
few of the flybys, the slot man was out of position. At other times,
the smoke was not on on all of the aircraft. The Blues web site
indicates two Marines on the team, but I only think one Marines was
introduced by the announcer.

Watched them yesterday at NAS Kingsville and all six flew and all 4 ship
formations flown with 4 aircraft. Good show but not as robust as others I
have seen.

Number 3 is a return performer now.
