View Full Version : Old Orions at Honolulu?

Taking off from Honolulu International yesterday, I happened to look out the
window of the B 757 and caught what looked like four P-3s in the USN color
scheme used before dull all-grey became the standard. They were almost directly
below, and we were gone before I could clearly make them out. They were near
the water's edge.
Anyone know what I saw?

I think some Japanese P-3s are still painted in the old two-tone white and
grey (though they have started repainting in grey overall). And I know that
Japan is sending some P-3s to participate in the RIMPAC 04 exercise that
starts today. Perhaps you saw some of the JMSDF aircraft.
