What is the minimum number of days required to select a national
champion and where is that specified?

What rules apply to seeding points earned at a Nationals and where are
they specified?

I'm sitting out the rain at Hobbs and can't reconcile the SSA FAI
Nationals rules with some information that is circulating here.

The rule that may turn out the be the big problem is 5.2.1.1 which
appear to require 8 contestants to not only stick out the rain, but
also to get 40% of the winners score.

thanks

I did a quick review of the current rankings for the remaining std
class entrants and it looks like rule 5.2.1.1.2 will apply, not
5.2.1.1.1. That means only 5 ranked >92 have to stick out the rain,
but they each have to get 75% of the winning score.

So back to worrying about how many days are required.

4.4 For an official National Championship, a minimum of four valid
competition days as defined in Rule 11.1.3 are required.

11.1.3 A valid competition day is a day on which every regular entrant
is given a fair opportunity to compete, and at least 25% of
Contestants achieve a Scored Distance not less than the Standard
Minimum Task Distance

This will change in 2011 to minimum 3 days with a 95% value.

Note the word "contestant." People who choose not to fly don't count.
It's a valid day if one pilot tries it and makes more than minimum
distance while everyone else sits in the box.

The 75 percent rule could lead to an interesting last day. Everybody
needs to slow down to make sure the last guy gets a good score.

Boy this is a gloomy subject of conversation

I predict:
They will get a contest.
It won't be much fun.
Still drying out from CCSC

Betcha they don't get a valid contest, but I do agree that it won't be
any fun. My interpretation of long-range forecasts is that the
promised ridge of high pressure that was supposed to dry out south-
eastern New Mexico will fizzle mid-week as another push of moisture
comes in from the south. If they are lucky, the ridge may hold from
Monday till Thursday, but I think it'll fold early.

Accepting bets!

I think it's worse than that isn't it. If you have 4 days where the
wx allows a task but there are mass landouts on the first 2 or 3 three
days there may be no chance of making up the required percentage score
on the last day. That could mean the contest is over after days 3
even if day 4 is flyable.

Today's weather brief gave a bit of hope for next week so lets hope
that those still here stick with it.

There was even talk of extending the contest another day but there
seem to be no rules that allow that.

The Lubbock rain total loop shows 5-6 inches of rain here right at the
airport. It's still raining Sunday morning and a lake is forming on
the lawn outside my dorm window.

Spratt wrote of "Sailing the sea of Hobbs" but I don't think this is
what he had in mind.

That should be Saturday - The days are starting to seem alike.
