Our club has been cleaning out a lot of accumulated treasurers. We
discovered we have 2 Winter Barographs, in breifcases, with some assortment
of champor and other supplies. We no longer use them - no one can remember
the last time one was used, let alone calibrated.

We will sell them for $100/ea to the first 2 people who contact me and send
a check. We'll pay shipping.

If you find someone who wants them, let me know! I have two more for
them! (as does most clubs I know of)

I put my Winter on eBay 5 years ago, but cancelled the auction when It
only got a single $1 bid.

Of course if you buy a "GPS position recorder" to do your silver and
gold badges you will need a winter barograph as well so the price
might go up again.

you can do your silver and gold badges with the Winter barograph only,
no GPS Position Recorder needed. Not that any are approved in the US
anyway.

I just went thru the cases and sorted out all the accumulated stuff in the
cases (old forms, dried out markers, etc. ) Here is what's left.

Samsonite breifcase with foam cut to hold barograph
Barograph last calibrated in 1998
18 foils
some pieces of Camphor for smoking

Leather covered breifcase with foam cut to hold barograph
Barograph last calibrated in 2000
bungees on barograph for mounting
some cracks in plastic window (appears easy to replace)
24 foils
some pieces of Camphor for smoking

Both barograph motors run - I wound them, turned them on and they tick.

here and in SSA eNews.

The last SSA E Newsletter that I got was in February. I don't see
anything in the News section on the SSA Website that says anything
about the FlyWithCE Recorder being approved for Silver and Gold badges
as a "GPS Position Recorder".

http://www.flywithce.com/recorder.html says that the FlyWithCE is
approved for use in US Contests but not Silver and Gold badge
flights.

Either way you still have to have a barograph, which is the minimum
required to get silver and gold badge anyway. The GPS position
recorder idea is nice if you are unable/afraid/unwilling to land away
from the home airport. I just hope it leads the IGC to someday allow
recorders like the FlyWithCE recorder or other COTS handheld GPS units
to be used exclusively for badge legs, no barograph required.

pffft... didn't you hear?... some guy like 40 yrs ago faked a badge
claim- FAKED A BADGE CLAIM! and here, you damn tree-flying liberals
would happily set up the precedence for this type of behavior to
flourish in your haste to save a buck. Simply playing into the hands
of the terrorists is what you're doing... quick- somebody ground this
guy! à²*_à²*

there have been a few times where my imagination has wandered into
what it would take to fake a badge claim. every time i decided it was
much easier just to fly the flight.
