Seeking News of Pensacola Navy Museum

Anyone know if the Naval Museum has made it through hurricane Ivan-?
It's one of my favorite vacation destinations--I'm worried about its
survival. Irreplaceable aircraft.

I tried to call this AM; got only a "trouble signal"--anyone have any info-?

Fla. Navy base sustains ‘catastrophic' damage
Ivan damages every building at historic Pensacola air station

WASHINGTON - Hurricane Ivan inflicted "catastrophic" damage on the
Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida and the base may not reopen for
two weeks, Navy officials told NBC News on Friday.
Rear Adm. T. McCreary, a spokesman for the Navy, said that Ivan the
caused "hundreds of millions of dollars" in damage at the historic
82-acre base, damaging every building and destroying several edifices
on the grounds.

At the base hospital alone, the storm left several holes in the roof
and caused an estimated $200,000 to $500,000 in damage. The 19
patients were not injured, having been moved by medical personnel to a
safe location inside the building.

At least 480 sailors were evacuated and most of the base's aircraft
were flown inland before the storm to avoid potential damage before
Ivan stormed ashore.

There were no reports of injuries among the personnel who stayed at
the base during the storm, the officials said.

82 acres?! 6,000 acres is more like it.

I wonder if that was actually a reference (badly stated) to that part of NAS
Pensacola which, IIRC, is so designated by the US?

Yes, that's the size of the historical zone at NAS, but I'd expect that
it was just a slip by an offsite JOx looking things up in a hurry while
under pressure. Elsewhere in the release it talks about damage well
outside the historical zone.
