Just a quick post to let everyone know that we are having a great time
here in Logan Utah at the R9N competition. This is the 2nd year for a
competition at this site and the USA 15 Meter Nationals will be here
in 2011!
25 pilots are competing and having fun, getting challenged and racking
up the air time and mileage. Checkout the scores and pictures at
http://ssa.org/members/contestreports/contestresults.asp
The CD, CM and task advisers have been challenged with the weather,
appropriate task calling and a TFR that was established due to a local
fire in a canyon
Will post more as time permits.

I've really been enjoying following along on this contest. The
competition in the FAI class is really tight. Tim Taylor and Dave
Leonard TIED with 2 days to go. Noel Wade's reports on his blog at
www.ssa.org have been really good for filling in the gaps. I've been
cheering quite a bit for Adam Kite, who I signed off for his Private-
Glider checkride about 3 or 4 years ago and I also had a hand in his
commercial and CFI-G training. Sorry Noel but I hope he beats you :)
Not to mention a lot of folks I've met are competing like Bruno and
Dan Wrobel. Plenty to get excited about. Too bad we can't have real
time tracking with up to the minute scoring. Then I really wouldn't
be getting anything done at work.

As mentioned in the contest report Thursday was great day for soaring
and racing here in Logan Utah.
Sports class had a big TAT and many pilots took advantage of it
crossing the Bear Lake Valley into the Salt River Range and back.
FAI had a assigned area task, i.e racing task, and they had a blast.
While the AAT is not called often all the pilots in the FAI class
enjoyed. Hope we can do it again
After 4 days in FAI Dave Leonard and Tim Taylor are tied at 3806
cumulative points!

A couple of things:
1) I feel no shame in being beaten by the likes of Bruno Vassel or
Adam Kite. They're great guys and hotshots in the cockpit, to boot.
Its been great fun getting to know them and getting to fly with them!
I'm still going to do my darndest to beat them, but we'll see where
the chips fall. :-)
2) A big public thanks to Ron for his duties as scorer. This has been
a busy contest with a lot of pilots, and many little issues that have
made scoring a challenge (weather, changes in tasks, forest-fire TFRs,
etc). Ron has handled it all, and appears to still have his sanity
intact - in spite of the crazy glider pilots like me that he has to
deal with! ;-)

Thanks, Micki!
My final blog post took a couple of days, but here's my wrap-up of the
Logan contest:
http://www.ssa.org/myhome.asp?mbr=1864823698&show=blog
Sorry I didn't mention everyone by name; there were too many great
people to list them all! I had a blast, I met some great people both
at the airport and in the community, and I am really hoping to do it
again soon!
Word on the street is that 15m Nats may be at Logan next year. If
they can somehow pull off a Regional+National contest, I'll definitely
be flying!! Heck, if its just a Nationals I may come and crew just to
experience the people and the town again!

Very nice report Noel. I enjoyed reading it. With any luck if they
do a Regional next year I will be there as well.
