Great series Mitch; the colourization really brings these pictures to
life. What was the process employed to add the colour ?

Good question, wish I knew. I would love to colorization
applied to old civil war photographs and such, it would really
add to the impact of them.

The basic technique is really quite simple, at least in Photoshop or
Photoshop Elements. It should be possible using Gimp as well but I've never
taken the time to figure Gimp out (or needed to, for that matter). Gimp,
however, is free.
If you, Mitchell, or anyone else is interested, I could post a (short) list
of the steps you have to go through. After that, it's just a matter of
patience and perseverance.
Doing it is easy; doing it well is more difficult.
To make my point, here's a picture (unfinished) of Amelia Earhart in her
PCA-2 autogyro which was sponsored by Beech-Nut. I did this a few months
ago, got it mostly done and then put it on hold where it's remained ever
since. The hardest part was tracking down the correct colours.
