Navy reassigns squadron leader aboard carrier

NAVAL STATION ROTA, Spain — The Navy has reassigned an F-14 Tomcat
fighter squadron commander deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS
John F. Kennedy for a “liberty incident” that occurred on a port
visit.

Rear Adm. Barry McCullough, commander of the Kennedy Strike Group,
replaced Cmdr. Guy Maiden with Capt. W.R. Massey on Sunday, said Mike
Maus, a U.S. Atlantic Fleet spokesman in Norfolk, Va. Maus said he
could not give any details of the off-duty incident because of privacy
concerns.

Maiden was the top officer in charge of Fighter Squadron 103 nicknamed
the “Jolly Rogers.”

The Navy announced Tuesday that McCullough took “administrative
action” against Maiden after a review of the...

VF-84 is long gone. VF-103 now has the Bones. Check my page:

It was VF-103, the Jolly Rogers. VF-103 took over the heraldry in 1995
when VF-84 disestablished.
Geez, retired military.

Yep, 103 were the Sluggers. There was a huge non Navy contingent that went
to every political ally they could find and had the old Skull and Cross
Bones reassigned. The Jolly Rogers are VF103 but no longer the Sluggers.

THE Jolly Rogers was VF-17, Tom Blackburn's outfit, during WW II.
