Heh. Loved that cool mint-green Cunardesque color scheme that the 1970's
RCN used -- plus booze (beer, anyway) in the wardroom!

Middie. Can't remember if this was before or after me and a bunch of
other Middie slackers got loaded on the fantail, watching
fellow-students work on their carrier-qualifications. Yes, that's right
-- hot, flaming death 50 ft away [1], and us giggling like the fools we
certainly were. Off Long Beach, c. 1967, on the semi-antique Bennington
(Essex-class, long since scrapped. Hell, it barely ran *then*.)
[1] -- can't recall if one of the fellow-fools was a pilot-intendee, who
changed his mind after a pick-up run for a guy who flunked & dunked. He
found the guy's flight-helmet. With an ear inside...
