I'm not able to get the cambridge igc file validator to run on my 64-
bit windows (7) operating system, it used to run ok on a 32-bit
computer. Anybody have an idea what I might try?

Try "XP Mode". I've heard that others have had luck with that.

Microsoft seems to have cleverly made that only available on
'professional' version or higher. Evil.

Hi,
Are you trying to validate a file for a GPS-NAV or a 302? There are Windows
programs that can be used to validate files.
For the GPS-NAV it is the Cambridge Aero Explorer program.
For the 302 it is the 300 Utility program.
Both are available here:
