Yes, armed forces around the world do have a predilection for coining
irreverent names for their kit.
e.g. Walrus = Shagbat; B-52 =BUFF etc.

In my RAF service we called it the "Whistling Tit" on account of the
Cloud & Clunk radar dome fitted on the nose looking like a nipple.
