Wouldn't it be a better test if you didn't shadow the Mio when
comparing to the others? It's obvious in the first two photos.

Paul,

I've ordered a Powerflarm and should get it in the next several
months............how will the LK8000 software work with Powerflarm?

thanks,
Brad

What is not obvious is that twisting the MIO 400 you get back the
brightness, but I cannot make a picture of this now.
For sure this PNA is better than the HP314 and HX4700, and that's not my
opinion: other people at the airfield could notice it.
I've been one of the earlier users of HP314 two years ago, all I am saying
is that there is a good alternative.
I haven't flown with the Oudie or Silentflight's device yet, and the other
commercial PNAs so far are less visible than this unit.

No idea, Brad. Probably no need to change anything for basic usage.
I think that Butterfly Avionics is doing great things, so I'll do my best to
support their products.

Ok, I'm game. I just got one on Ebay pretty cheap. I'm always willing
to try something like this if it has merit. Thanks for the tip. I'll
post back when I get it and test it.

What are you using right now?

Nothing.

I have a SeeYou Mobile license, but my HP310 and Dell Axim PDA are
pretty much useless in sunlight.

I fly with a 302/303. A moving map is a novelty at this point. I'm not
a contest guy, so what I have works very well for xc flying. Although
if I could find a PNA device that's usable (visible) it would be a
nice addition to the cockpit.

Any ideas whether or not the Mio400 supports 4800 baud on the USB /
RS232 interface? I understand that the IPAQ 310/314 can not work with
the C302 since the Ipaq can not communicate at 4800 bauds. Any chance
that this Mio400 could be connected to an 302 or an L-Nav?

Thanks,

I could not find any information that leads me to believe it will
interface via RS232. It has no bluetooth either.

Paolo reported on his link above that the M400 had "USB with RS232
compatible with HP314". I *assume* that the same RS232 adapter that
folks use on the 310/314 would work on the M400. Paolo - Would you be
so kind to shed further light on the interface capabilities of the
device? By the way, are there some commercial RS232 adapters available
out there? The only one that I have seen so far is the one from
Goddard. Thanks.

This supports 4800 bauds on port 1 - according to the company selling
it.

MIO 400 is like NILOX 200, and NILOX 100 (I have also Nilox 100 which is a
3.5 inches).
Just use the same cable and power supply for HP314, and you get a real
rs232.
I am using it all the times connected to Flarm to getbaro altitude and
traffic.
I dont know if MIO has a limitation like in the 314 for the 4800 bps not
working.
My cable was kindly given to me by a friend, so I don't know if it is
available commercially also.
