Looking for the tail locking spring for my LS1-f. DG told me it's not
longer available in their stock

Did you check to see if he had the spring-ball upgrade kit? It
replaces the old spring and looks almost identical to the later models
(3, 4, ...).

You paid DG their annual extortion fee, and they couldn't bend a piece
of piano wire for you?

Yes I paid the annual maintenance, and they want to sell me the
upgrade solution of installing the ratchet type as the new LS models,
and they have quoted me € 135 for the freight plus € 245 for the part.
It is avery expensive solution to replace a piece of wire. The new
part is less than 500 grams so I imagine it will be delivered on
Bussines class :) . Unfortunately looks like I have no other option.

I haven't seen the part in question, but if it is truly just a length of spring
wire, I would pay a visit to my local 2-way radio shop and rummage in the box
where they throw the old car antenna whips. You might just find some LS1 parts
there...

For what it's worth, I bought the new ratchet kit in 2007 from Chris
Klix (Pacific Aerosport) for $190 plus $25 shipping. Still expensive
for what it is, but a whole lot cheaper than DG.
