Bare metal can look very good, unfortunately B-HUK looked rather tired. I
suspect that it had been cleaned back to bare in preparation for a new coat
of paint.

B-HUH the one that came in the following day looked so much cleaner - but
not bare metal.

This guy is sitting up at Boeing's plant at PAE with an interesting
variation on the paint scheme.

Crappy shot, sorry... No better angle available. The B-52G belongs
to The Museum of Flight in Seattle, who have no room for it. It has
been at PAE for over two decades slowly fading. It has a small dent
in the trailing edge of the left wingtip that matches the one in my
head. Not having peripheral vision can be painful...

I did wonder where the picture was but thought you would notice its absence
in due course.

That's certainly one colour scheme that I have never seen before.

PAE is an interesting looking place, I had a quick look on Google Earth and
saw the B.52 sitting there along with all the other aircraft nearby.
Were you lucky enough to be on the airfield to get that picture, only GE
makes it look like you would have to have been?

Nope, just peeking through a fence near the new control tower. They
move the B-52 every now and then as space is needed. The delays in
the 787 program have left Boeing short of parking spots, they have
been parking birds in more public areas; the day I was there last week
there were three spanking new EVA Air 777-300s huddled around the
tower on the GA transient ramp.

Loss of peripheral vision must be difficult, I hope the dent will heal in
time.

There is something very good in being able to see the new aircraft awaiting
delivery.

I used to look forward to Friday (I think it was) afternoons when they test
flew the new HS.748's out from Woodford (EGCD) but it was more than a little
distracting during lessons. Sadly its a much quieter place these days.

I miss my days of driving when I could make the loop of Paine Field,
Renton and Boeing Field to catch all the new Boeing toys being
produced. These days, I settle for a summer afternoon sitting outside
The Museum of Flight at BFI hoping something interesting happens.

That reminds me. I few months back I went to an estate sale and picked up a
book called "The Dark Island". The story is about highjackers who highjack
a 747 filled with artwork and other treasure by putting all the passengers
to sleep with a sleeping gas. Sound familiar? This book predates the
Airport movie by several years. That is the information from the inside
cover. Have not had a chance to read the book yet.

I caught the 1957 movie "Zero Hour!" on the tube a few weeks back. If
you've ever seen the comedy "Airplane!", this is the film they
parodied. I hadn't seen "Zero Hour!" before, and was rolling on the
floor all the way through.

Nice pics, Bob, but the copyright date seems a bit out of time. It's
cool to look at these. Some of the businesses in the background are
still there, but you can't see them because they built buildings in
front of 'em. Compare this pic, which is approximately the same view
with your Pan Am shot. What a difference. What year were yours shot?

They do seem to like to build new stuff.

Those were all taken one fine afternoon in March 1977 (the © dates
were when I scanned and published). I was on my way from Seattle to
Tucson to attend the Davis-Monthan AFB open house and tour MASDC.
Purposely got a non-direct flight with a long stopover at LAX. Nothing
like shooting well over 100 rolls of slide film in three days.

I remember the pilot bouncing off the smog layer as we descended.
Thought we were gonna have to get out the shovels to dig our way down.
