Peter;
It looks like all of those manuals should be available from the
manufacturers. Unfortunately since they are for airplanes, the prices
may reflect such. I've seen some manuals on CD ROM being sold on
Ebay, but haven't looked into the content. Pirated, no doubt, but
they may help. You can also look on Ebay for these items, but beware
because some will be photocopies and others will be available from the
manufacturer for a lower price. Good luck with your search.

Isn't there some kind of law about who's allowed to work on avionics?

Good Luck,

www.esscoaircraft.com/ will have most of the manuals poster wants.

If a box (exc. xponder) cannot be removed by sliding it out from the
front, then it must be reinstalled fwg repair by an A&P needing a
basis for returning the A/C to service. Meaning it was yellow-tagged
by a repairman FAA authorizes to do so. Where she does slide out,
repairing it is not on the list of owner-maintenance items.

But for any box really, if an electronics-savvy owner wants to replace
a 25-cent transistor to save $300, what he/she does is wear surgical
gloves and be sure to vaccum out any strand of hair which may have
fallen into the box. Never know when FAA might add DNA testing to its
random enforcement programs and demand cheek swabs on ramp checks. :-)

What about buying a same-model, same part# replacement box, new, and
shoving it in to replace defective box? Like replacing a KX-155A
nav/com with another 155a because the 1st one died? All that's
involved is sliding into the tray and securing in place. Airframe log
notation with new serial number sufficient to be covered as owner
maint?

Sounds good to me. I can't deduce why it need even be a new or
yellow-tagged box; something off eBay on PayPal and a prayer seems to
fit the FARs. :-) If you look at Part 43 in the Appendix re owner
maintenance, you may replace a slide-in box with impliedly anything
that'll work, but you are to perform an operational check as necessary
and should log that test.
