View Full Version : Cockpit Video -- ridge soaring to the Mt Washington wave

I was so completely enthralled by the visual effect of soaring the Mt
Washington wave area on the weekend of October 9th, I bought another
video cam in the hopes of being able to capture some of it the
following (and final) weekend of our annual wave camp. I lucked out
-- mother nature was good to us this year.

This is a ten minute cockpit video showing take off from Gorham
airport in one of its calmer moods, then ridge soaring several miles
along the Moria Carter range to the area of the Mt Washington primary
and finally initial contact with the wave.

Wind at the ridge top of the Carters is too strong for normal ridge
soaring, hence respectful distance from rocks & trees and speed
appropriate to heavy turbulence.

This was shot with the Hero HD in 960p mode, edited in iMovie. In
full resolution, the video quality is excellent. Sharing that will
require a little more bandwidth here, which I understand is to happen
soon.

Is it just me? At about 3:55 into the video I head a quick "bleep"
and the video freezes for the rest of the time. I see this at a
couple
different resolutions.

Nice video up to that point though.

Well that's annoying :-/.

That appears to be a youtube problem. It played fine earlier today,
now I get the same glitch. Too bad -- the transition to wave at the
end of the vid is the coolest part. If the problem persists, I upload
again.

Same video, fresh upload, problem fixed.

Still avail only up to 480p (my next issue to solve -- it's worth
seeing this in 960).
