Walter Kahn[_2_]
April 11th 11, 12:34 PM
Sadly Rear Admiral H.C.N.(Nick) Goodhart died on 9th April of a massive
stroke. He was a fantastic man - his achievements in gliding and other
aviation fields apart from his many further inventions etc are legion.
In 1955 he won the USA Nationals but being a foreigner (he did marry an
American) he was placed 'One above the National Champion'.
In 1956 he won the world two-seater Championship held in France. He
represented the United Kingdom seven times and was placed in the first ten
four times. He was British Champion three times and held many records.
He invented the mirror landing aid for aircraft carriers for which he was
awarded the USA Medal of Merit in 1958. He designed and built a man
powered aeroplane and many other things, too many to list here.
A truly towering figure in our world, we will be greatly missed.
A full obituary will appear in 'Sailplane & Gliding'. Do read my
chapter on this great man in the 2nd edition of my book 'A Glider Pilot
Bold...' It will be available soon for all to read free - google 'Wally
Kahn/BGA e Book Collection' and all will be revealed of a very exciting
poject.
