soaring deficit" Washington Post

Finally!

We are all aware of the appalling deficit in soaring in this country.
Every year it gets worse. Fewer and fewer pilots enter the sport. And
our numbers continue to dwindle. It is nice to hear that finally
there is some awareness of this important national issue at the
highest levels of government. I am eager to hear what the President
will propose.

The President will likely propose a stimulus program for soaring.
Grants to clubs and commercial operators can be expected, as well as a
hefty bootstraps program for the underpriviledged and long-suffering
low performance glider owners. Sources indicate this will be
accomplished with a cash for clunkers scheme whereby all gliders with
a L/D of less than 40:1 will receive vouchers redeemable for a new
ASG-29. Clunkers traded in will be offered free to foreign pilots
competing in the 2012 WGC in Uvalde.

Expect the President to announce that Treasury Secretary Geithner will
spearhead additional fiscal initiatives such as USAF TDY flight
instructors, a Boeing replacement for Blaniks, a billion Dollar R+D
effort to perfect a thermal detector and a free ClearNavs for pellet
vario exchange.

When asked for their views on the soaring deficit, Republicans
repeated their support of Open Class owners and said they would
fillibuster any attempt to increase the burden on Arcus, Antares and
ASG-31 owners.

Just let us tow to off the Washington Mall. There has got to be a huge
thermals sitting over the US Congress and the White House. That should
captivate the nation and improve interest in soaring. Lobby your
representative now for the right to tow off the Mall.

I certainly hope that the President takes a serious interest in the deficit we are currently experiencing in soaring. I fear though that this will just be another failure of his administration not unlike the stimulus package. How many people do you know who were stimulated by Obama's package? I know of no one so stimulated. Failure of his package to stimulate anyone suggests that he does not understand the concept of stimulus. How then can we expect that he understands how to address the soaring deficit? Good luck to you Mr President and remember, lift is where you find it.

We could utilize the High Speed Rail monies Florida turned down.
Does SSA comply to being a glider pilots and owners union? How about
AOPA?
That "Cash for Glid-unkers", does it come with a new bumper sticker?
That thing about the Mall, thats more of a sucking sound instead of a
whoosh

Have you ever thermaled over a large feed lot? You might want to try
it before you get close to the REALLY BIG feedlot on the hill.
It's an experience that you'll be reminded of on a regular basis, as
long as you're digestive system is regular.

Good point. And yes I've done it. In the San Joaquin Valley in CA
there are some large feed lots near I5 and you can definitely smell
them when overhead.

it's like the acetone thermal the boatyard puts off where I fly, you

Post of the week, bravo Karl.

I think the VSA would be against a cash for clunkers program though.
Maybe we should talk to the 1-26 association about loaners for the
2012 worlds? :)

We should elect Harry and Nancy Balony, Prince and Vice Princess of
SCUM.
