microair problem

I've had a Microair for about 3 years. It's rev P. I've found it to
be very (extremely) sensitive to low voltage. But, that's not the
issue for this discussion. I was flying a few days ago when it began
to turn itself on and off in a more or less random fashion. All of my
other electronics were fine.

I landed and found that all of my memory freq's were gone. But, to my
surprise, it seemed to have healed itself after I landed. I flew the
next day and had no issues.

Any thoughts on what would have flashed the freq's in memory?

The only thing I'm confident of is that the problem will resurface. I
did nothing to solve it so it will be back. I guess I'll fly with the
handheld in reserve and lament having saved a few hundred bucks on the
Microair. It's been unreliable from the day it was installed.

There was a Microair SB to re-seat the micro controller. Poor contact
with the socket was causing a variety is problems, some of which only
showed up when the radio was hot. It's easy enough to do if you are
competent with electronics repair but I don't know if it applicable to
your mod letter. Email me if you like and I'll send it to you. The
factory no longer publishes the SBs but I have a copy and photos of
the insides.

Contact Rick Lord. He knows all about Microairs and can fix them. He
fixed mine.

Doug,

I also recommend Erie. My early Microaire went in to another shop
several times trying to get healed. Erie finally did the deed and I
have been good ever since. Might be that Erie just had the latest fix
which is what I needed...but they are good folk. Call them and ask
what their thoughts are.

Doug,

I can also recommend Erie. I have a 2002 Microaire that had issues
about 2 years ago and sent it to Rick. I called and described what
was happening and he knew exactly what the deal was. No problems
since he repaired it and it was done in a timely fashion for a
reasonable price.
