View Full Version : Boettger & Bennett in wave again 4/28

Soaring NV[_2_]

Gordo and Hugh are up in wave again, flying north/south/north/south
along the eastern slope of the Sierras after a 6:30 launch out of
Minden.

Bob Spielman (Chukar) is also up, trying a 500 km speed and distance
in an ultralight (Sparrowhawk) after a 10:30 launch.

Both flights can be tracked by going to the SoaringNV web site
<www.SoaringNV.com> and clicking on the SPOT button in the upper right
corner.

Soar, SPOT, Soar! See them soar! (In real time less 10 minutes!)

thanks for the heads up Fred. Are they trying to best their 3
turnpoint record from last week? planning on flying back to minden?

Tony:

Boettger/Bennett are trying to best last week's record and will likely
not land back in Minden.

Chukar is trying for a new record after having set 100 km triangle
speed on 4/2 and 300 km Out and return on 4/20. He plans to land back
at Minden.

Interesting, I noticed they went to the north end of the range first.
If they use Minden as their start point that means they'll have to go
somewhere off the south end of the range for free 3 turnpoint
distance. Unless they don't start until they turned back south but
then that distance from minden to ~susanville is sort of wasted. I
hear the grand canyon is nice this time of year though...

They probably go for OLC distance which is 5TP. The 2200km was OLC
distance, not free 3TP distance.

Gordo and Hugh used the north turnpoint as their start point, so yes,
the flight from Minden to Susanville was "wasted". They are currently
over Minden on their way north -- it looks to me as if their northern
progress is very slow.

Chukar has landed, saying the winds were too strong to make any
progress.

More later. Fred

Wow, much better than Spot thanks to IFR flight plan!
