View Full Version : PowerFlarm Delays

Heard from a dealer yesterday that the PowerFlarm is still bogged down
in the FCC approval process. No delivery anytime soon. No fault of the
dealers.

Bummer. I'm really looking forward to getting mine. It will get here
eventually.

Why aren't the people responsible for bringing this to the market
giving all their "customers" who entrusted them with deposits (at
least CC numbers and commitment to buy) regular updates? Unexpected
delays happen we all know. More communication to customers would be
nice. Looking forward to getting mine as well.

Will someone on the PowerFlarm team please provide a status report?

i'm guessing there hasn't been an update because there is nothing to
update.

Status update and outlook to be communicated this week.

Hi Urs.
It would be helpful if you could provide updates for both the portable
and the brick solutions.

Did I miss the update? Anyone heard anything?

I think it's understandable that there would be delays in development
and certification. What is not understandable is that customers are
not being kept informed.

Perhaps we would have more leverage if we had actually paid deposits
rather than just declaring intent to purchase.

How will deposit leverage speed up FCC approval?

It won't, nor did I say it would, but it would perhaps have provided
an incentive to provide feedback on progress./status. Moot now we
have a report and the assurance of regular follow up.

It is also disappointing to learn (http://www.cumulus-soaring.com/
flarm.htm) that in addition to hardware-related delays "Initially some
secondary features are missing but will be available via software
updates (PCAS Mode A/C display, flight recording, ADS-B target
alarming and dataport output ...)."

Agreed. I will be using mine primarily as a PCAS device and flight
recorder until flarm catches on. Hopefully it won't be too long before
they enable non-flarm functionality.

Yes the functions they will provide (above and beyond basic Flarm) are
not much use in the US for the time being. The functions that are
important are not going to be there.

Since we don't already have an established base of flarm use in the
US, you would think the non-flarm features were be pretty important on
release.

Hi Gang
I am getting a new Phoenix and had committed to a power flarm. More
than 50% of my flying will be as a S LSA (power plane) and not as a
glider (motor). As such the PCAS function for me is mandatory whereas
the power flarm function is secondary. Therefore I am cancelling the
power flarm and going with a Zaon MRX instead. A pity! I might review
the situation in a year's time if the flarm people get their act
together.

I understand the frustratrion. One of the problems is there is no
clear schedule that shows what functionality we can expect to be
delivered, and when.

In another thread Urs said - "Mode A/C, flight recording and ADS-B
alarming/dataport output will either be ready when shipping in the US
or available as a free update,
easily done by the pilot through an SD card (reader is integrated).
We will update technical data and specifications during the next
weeks. "

Maybe that's a reason to hang on just a bit longer?

Andy
