Neither type of engine was powerful enough on their own for this
aircraft. Also, the technology for turbojets was still in its infancy
and was not considered particularly reliable.

IIRC the jet engines were used only for take-off and "dash speed",
they were turned off during other "normal" flight phases.

Jet powered interceptors are coming in, you can't out fly them,
either way,,
IIRC: only the early models had them..
..vibration from the guns played hell with the electronics of the era...
