I wante4d to look at some pictures on one of the alt.binaries groups and all
I got was gobbledgook. Is there a viewing program one is supposed to use
and if so what is it and where do I get it? Thanks in advance for curing my
ignorance.

yeah use Free Agent as your usenet viewer. when you double click the
item it downloads. once that is done <ctrl> <L> to open it in a
graphics viewer.

You have to get a news reader that can support binaries. There are a number
of them out there. Alternatively you can go to one of the web-based news sites
and read them there.
