The first ever U.S. in-person Condor regional soaring contest will be
held January 13-15 at the Ann Arbor, MI airport FBO. The regional
will feature 4 full 'contest days' (two on Saturday Jan 14, two on
Sunday Jan 15). Trophies for the first three places will be awarded,
just like in a 'real' regional contest. See https://sites.google.com/site/region6condorcontest/
for details.

Now there is a way to feed your soaring habit, even with snow and ice
piled up around your glider trailer ;-).. Come join us for this
historic event at Ann Arbor

Frank,

I'm sure you'll all have fun. I find it a bit funny that the first
condor regional is a live in person event and not an online event.

Tony,

We have been having online events for years (Monday Night Soaring,
SpeedBattle Cup, the recent 4-day Xmas Cup with 140 pilots, etc).

This event is an attempt to incorporate an aspect that is missing from
online events - the camaraderie and non-flying activities associated
with being physically at the same place at the same time, just as in
'real-life' contests.

With online events there is no morning meeting where the winning pilot
from yesterday's task gets to tell his story and receive a 'day
winner' prize, there is no after-flying beer-drinking, dinner-eating,
lie-telling, and there is no awards ceremony with physical trophies
awarded.

The only thing that will be different about the Ann Arbor Condor
contest is the necessity of rigging and de-rigging (and retrieves) -
everything else will be the same. The ability to make good on-course
decisions under pressure, and all of the soaring skills are still
required. And, of course, we get to specify the weather and the
terrain for each day's task - nice! ;-).

Hey Frank,

Try out the Worst Day Throw Away scoring for the contest. See if
anyone is willing to "go for broke" without risk of actual physical
harm.
