Ahhhh! There 'may' be a break-through [not the trench variety!] at Meigs
and a compromise 'may' be reached with .... [ALL RISE!] Mayor Daley!

[A sudden call from the Daley faithful....] : "Der Führer, SIEG!"

What's that? I don't care for the guy...that's why! Or his ways. Or his
demeanor. Or his political machinations. Or his 'in your face' tantrums
when he wants his own way. The trenches at Meigs was/are a disgrace!

Anyway, word is that a compromise may be reached [see the editorial
piece by Bill Fedorko in 'Private Pilot' mag, September issue, page 4]
wherein the Illinois legislature is willing to give the
Führ...ehhhh....Daley II more say [read: power] in the 'O'Hare'
expansion project in return for another Meigs reprieve...and due repair
therein. But who knows..... . Stay tuned.

That editorial was written before the bulldozers began completing the
destruction job last week.

Well, then it's a shame because some said that virtually anything [with
regard to land] with regard to open land per se can be made serviceable
again [with the requisite amounts of $$$ and materials] but if indeed
the final end has come for Meigs, it still ranks as a tragedy solely
because one individual wanted to make his warped 'point' [!?] followed
by his known tantrums or 'surprises' [sic!] to make his displeasure(s)
known [and felt] to various and sundry.

I suppose I react the way I do because in various jurisdictions it's
all too easy [after 9-11] to focus on GA under the 'precautionary' guise
and the old arguments start in once again on how that more rural GA
airport and its equally often prime land [as areas grow around same]
would no doubt make a much better shopping or industrial [read:
increased revenue] center or housing complex versus a GA airport for the
alleged 'comfortably established and their expensive toys.'

My hope is that the FAA, but more likely some congress critters
squeeze Chicago thouroughly to about a quart past empty as some have
shown an inclination. There is that possibility that Daily's
maneuvering will cost not only Chicago, but the state many, many
dollars...and then again they may get off scott free as he expects.
The airport may be dead, but I seriously think the issue is far from
being so.
