Betting it was painted at Grumman by someone who didn't read the paint
specifications too closely; perhaps thought it meant 'Air Ministry".

A plausible explanation for which thanks. To be honest though, I'm less
concerned with the mistake than with me proof-reading the sides of aircraft.
