View Full Version : Does anyone know what glider that is?
Ran accross this nice clip on YouTube posted by the Bacchus Marsh Soaring group in Australia. At 3:11, a wing-mounted camera shows a glider I can't identify. It looks like a side-by-side glass ship with a conventional tail.
Just curious what that glider is.
Thanks,

It is the one and only es-65 Platypus by Edmund Schneider, who also
designed the ESG

Sensibly using low tow too, I see.

Thanks to all that replied! That Platypus looks like a really interesting design. Just wondering why it didn't go into production.

I flew the platypus at Bacchus Marsh with Alan Patching.
What a great glider!
Nice handling, great visibility, side by side so cockpit communication is great. It even has a dummy landing gear handle which will sound an alarm if you try to pull airbrakes with the fixed gear "up".
There should be more than the one...

I enjoyed flying it as well. It wasn't built quite
straight and has a firm tendency to turn at speed...
There was lots of intrigue and multiple attempts
to get it into production, but that was all
decades ago.
